How could the wonderful pious devotion of the Benalla faithfuls weekly Perpetual Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Succor be referred to as mere “talk, talk, talk”?

Providentially, the incident prompted  a parishioner to keep the following record of events during those early days as the hurricane gathered force. In many instances, the actual discipline of the Church has been added (*) as a clear indication of the speed with which the Team moved to enforce the hegemony of its new religion over and above that espoused by the Second Vatican Council:

9.2.89: Father B said there will be no more Confession before Mass, as this distracts the priests. Sacrament of Reconciliation Second Rite now available on Saturday mornings, no individual Confession available.

Priests no longer wear correct vestments at Sunday Masses. No crucifix at Mass in the hall. Priests change words of prayers, leave out prayers and add to prayers at Mass. Lack of reverence by priests is obvious.

“Individual, integral confession and absolution remain the only ordinary way for the faithful to reconcile themselves with God and the Church, unless physical or moral impossibility excuses from this kind of Confession.” (The Rite of Penance —Items No. 31-34)

* “The faithful have a right to a true liturgy, which means the liturgy desired and laid down by the Church … Undue experimentation, changes and creativity bewilder the faithful … The Second Vatican Council’s admonition in this regard must be remembered: ‘No person, even if he be a priest, may add, remove or change anything in the liturgy on his own authority’.” (Introduction to Inaestimabile Donum)

12.2.89: At 10.30 Mass Father referred to people who pray a lot as “So heavenly, that they are no earthly good.”
